Maggie Blair our Families Pastor shares about her first year in the role
It’s been almost a year supporting the church here at Romsey, how quickly time seems to go, yet what a lot can be fitted in. As I reflect over my time getting to know the Church community, I find it hard to believe that I haven’t known you all more than a year. I think this is a testament to the genuine friendship and welcome you receive when you come to Romsey Methodist Church.
It's been a great encouragement to be able to support and work with wonderfully committed people in providing God’s love and welcome to families in the local area. Every week hard work by a big team provides families with something to attend on Mondays, Wednesday, Fridays and Sundays… and once a month a Saturday morning is added too. This is a wonderful achievement.
I love spending time with the church families across the month and I can usually be found a Beacon Café supporting the children to have a great time. This is the perfect time to grab me for a quick chat and catch up on what is happening in your lives. But if you need a bit of extra support or more private chat do ask and we can make sure a more private space is arranged.
It's been a delight to get alongside the families attending on a Sunday morning, developing our groups to be catering for the different needs of the children who come. Giving them the chance to explore and develop their faith at age-appropriate levels. I love the variety of questions the different ages bring and often find we have so much to learn form the way in which children ask questions.
In the coming months we have a Summer packed fill of opportunities for children and carers to come and find a welcome and fun alongside exploring some of the many stories Jesus told, So do encourage any families you know to head to the church over the summer, Wednesday afternoons and Friday mornings.
Over the Autumn I will be looking at how I can work with families beyond what happens here at the church, Deuteronomy 6: 4-9 reminds us of how important it is to share and explore our faith with our children and in all aspects of our lives. But this isn’t always something that is easy or that we feel comfortable with. So, by working with parents and grandparents to look at what this might mean in each of your family situations it is an area we can develop and grow in confidence in.
